The Friendship Club

The Huntsville Friendship Club was
established in 1944 at the Presbyterian
Church. In 1945 the club became involved
in civic events. The first project was the
beautification of the square. Again in 1988
they turned their attention to the Huntsville
square and are still maintaining it today.
1948 was the first year for the Easter Egg
Hunt which has become an annual event
for all the children of Madison County.

Some of the other projects have been;
lights for the tennis court at Withrow, the
gazebo on the square, the pavilion at
Mitchusson, $2000.00 donation towards
the War Memorial Wall on the courthouse

lawn, yearly scholarship to a high school senior, Christmas lights on the
square, annual Christmas Tour of Homes, Christmas shopping for needy children at
Wal-Mart, the publishing of three cookbooks, and of course the beautification of the
square. Our newest project, the building of a Memorial Waterfall with benches and
plants, is completed and was dedicated to the community in August of 2004. It was
built in the area across the street from the courthouse. It is the focal point as you
drive through Huntsville and it is a place for people to relax while waiting. This project
is just another example of the Huntsville Friendship Club's devotion to the community
of Huntsville.

In 1975 Friendship Club started the “Friendship Club Memorial Fund” with the money
to be used on worthwhile civic projects. Anyone may donate to the fund in memory of
a friend or loved-one. The money is used for projects, like those mentioned above,
that will benefit the community as a whole.

The Friendship Club has a long and exemplary history. The members take pride in
this history and work hard to preserve the tradition of the club. Business and
community members who donate to Friendship Club projects can rest assured that
their money will be used for the betterment of Huntsville and the Friendship Club will
be here to ensure that a project never becomes a blemish on the landscape of our city.
