Some of what the coalition has made happen
Car seat safety
A Community-Based Injury Prevention grant brought 420 car seats to local families in 2012, with more from NWTRAC in 2014.
Water safety
More than 200 free life jackets were given out through a 2014 water safety grant.
A walking trail
A $35,000 Trails for Life grant (2008) built a walking trail behind the local health unit.
Smoke alarms
A smoke alarm grant put 100 free smoke alarms in local homes.
Gardens & bike racks
Raised-bed gardens at the Senior Center (2013) and new bike racks, with the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention.
Fields for everyone
Joint-use agreements opened school soccer fields in Huntsville (2010) and Kingston (2011) to the community.
Health fairs and screenings
The coalition helps put on health fairs and screening events where people can get blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar checks, TB tests and health information close to home, like the BBall Health Fair and the 2021 Butterball health screening. In 2020 a UAMS grant helped the coalition provide food during COVID-19.
